

Valley Career & Technical Center and Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School Welcomes Prospective Students and Our Community to an Open House on November 3, 2025
Fishersville, VA – Valley Career & Technical Center (VCTC) and Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School (SVGS) will open its doors to prospective students, their families, prospective employers, educators, business, industry and leaders in the Augusta County, Highland County, Staunton and Waynesboro communities for an Open House on November 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The event is a unique opportunity for students to learn about programs offered, meet staff, and discover the academic and technical programs that define student experiences at VCTC and SVGS. Business/industry representatives, educators, local leaders and our communities are invited to see our labs/shops/classrooms, connect with our teachers, and network with each other.
“Our open house is the best way for students and our communities to understand how we prepare the next generation of skilled professionals,” Lee Ann Whitesell, Director of Shenandoah Valley Center for Advanced Learning. “We are thrilled to welcome future students to explore how our programs can help them achieve their personal and professional goals. We are excited to welcome our communities to see how we cultivate our area’s traditionally strong work ethic while integrating the newest technology and professional trends.”
Open House attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Tour facilities, including classrooms, shops, and labs.
- Meet with current students and staff. Our instructors will be on hand to share what makes each program unique and answer your questions
- See it, try it, do it! Explore student-made projects and experience hands-on activities.
The event is free and open to the public. Visitors may explore programs at their leisure with student guides and staff available to assist them. Local food trucks will be serving up delicious eats throughout the evening.

SVGS is one of 19 regional Academic Year Governor’s in Virginia and has programs and courses designed to meet the needs of gifted and highly motivated students. SVGS provides a unique environment in which individuals explore the interconnections between technology and (1) mathematics and sciences or (2) the arts and humanities. Students may attend in one of several broad curriculum areas: *Sciences (science, mathematics, technology, and engineering) OR * Arts & Humanities (humanities and performing arts).
